Senator Chuck Schumer Honors La Victoria Foundation’s Work with Immigrants
During our recent Gala, Senator Chuck Schumer shared a powerful message that deeply resonated with everyone at La Victoria Foundation. Although he couldn’t attend in person, his words reminded us of the importance of unity, compassion, and continued support for immigrant communities across the United States.
Speaking from Washington, the Senator expressed his ongoing fight to protect the American people and his unwavering belief in the value of immigration. He shared a personal connection, revealing that his own middle name “Ellis” comes from Ellis Island, and his daughter’s middle name “Emma” honors Emma Lazarus, the poet whose words — “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free” — are engraved on the Statue of Liberty.
“These values,” said Schumer, “run deep, deep in my bones.”
He praised La Victoria Foundation for being on the front lines every day, protecting the most vulnerable immigrants, ensuring they receive due process, and preventing them from falling victim to unjust political agendas. The Senator highlighted the importance of our mission, especially during times of uncertainty and division:
“La Victoria is doing great work to help immigrants get a fair hearing in the courts and keep the whole process transparent.”
Senator Schumer closed his message with a call to resilience and unity — values that define our organization and the communities we serve:
“Now’s the time to be resilient, to work together, and to fight for what makes America so great — our diversity. Sí se puede, yes we can.”
At La Victoria Foundation, we are honored by these words and remain committed to continuing our work with passion and integrity, defending the rights of every immigrant and strengthening the fabric of our diverse nation.
